A SHOP selling “dog essentials” and a grooming service is to open in Henley.
Naughty Mutt Nice will begin business on Tuesday, October 6 in the former Henley Barber Shop on the corner of Reading Road and Station Road.
Owner Aspen Weatherburn, 32, is returning to the town after a 20-year absence.
Ms Weatherburn, of Northfield Avenue, Shiplake, said: “I am coming back to my roots.”
She has spent the last 10 years working as a freelance journalist, writing for television and magazines, and is “very excited” about her first business.
Ms Weatherburn said: “It is in a fantastic location near the station. In that parade of shops there is a dry cleaners and a bicycle shop. Customers can drop off their pooch for a groom or a service wash and then have something dry cleaned or their bike fixed at the same time.”
She has two dogs of her own, a Rhodesian ridgeback called Winnie and a basset hound called Tallulah.
“I have loved dogs since I was little,” she said. “We always had pet dogs.”
Her shop will offer a range of goods for dogs, including collars, leads and organic biscuits, as well as a half-hour “service wash” in which dogs are brushed and cleaned.

“There will also be a doggy day care service for people who commute and don’t want to leave their dogs at home,” said Ms Weatherburn. “They can drop their animal off with me and go to work and pick them up later. There is room for three places.”
She has employed Susan Lewington, who worked at the Henley Pet Shop in Bell Street for 11 years, as a groomer and her mother Linda Hetherington.
Her business opening is the latest sign that trade in Henley is beginning to recover from the recession. Ms Weatherburn said: “Henley town centre is on the up again.”
